“On the Table” Lunch hosted by the Chicago Biomedical Consortium

The On the Table series was launched by The Chicago Community Trust in 2015 to bring together groups of people to discuss ways to create a stronger community in Chicago and beyond. Supporting that tradition, the Chicago Biomedical Consortium hosted an “On the Table” luncheon at The Grill on the Alley restaurant in downtown Chicago. The May 14th luncheon was both an opportunity to thank the Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust for their support over the years and to discuss the status of the current biomedical activities in the Chicago area.

A diverse group of 24 people attended the lunch, including CBC leadership, faculty and technology transfer officers from the three CBC universities, members of Chicago biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and representatives from the Kinship Foundation and The Chicago Community Trust.

The theme for this year’s “On the Table” event was: Memo to the Mayor. Lunch attendees engaged in productive conversations regarding the unmet needs that face the Chicago biomedical and life science communities along with ideas for creating local career opportunities that would attract and retain talented scientists.

Participants also discussed strategies for the Mayor to strengthen collaborations within the Chicago biomedical community and provide entrepreneurial professional development to university researchers and support to biotechnology start-up companies.

The lunch concluded with networking and dessert. All agreed that we had successfully drafted a productive “Memo to the Mayor”. We wish Lori Lightfoot every success as the newest Mayor of Chicago!
