CBC Announces a New Award Program: CBC Postdoctoral Research Grant Program

The CBC is pleased to announce the initiation of a new program, the CBC Postdoctoral Research Grant Program.

Purpose:

Rich with new ideas and energy, postdoctoral fellows in the CBC laboratories are eager to solve important scientific questions.  They are often the innovators of the future and are ready to bring new technologies to existing biomedical research problems that open up new areas of investigation.  This new initiative, the CBC Postdoctoral Research Grant Program, will provide funding to postdoctoral fellows for research carried out under the supervision of the postdoctoral fellow’s faculty mentor/advisor in core research facilities at the CBC universities.  The technology provided by the core facility must be either new to the postdoctoral fellow or new to the faculty mentor’s laboratory.  This program is not intended to support the applicant’s research activities that are already ongoing in a core facility.  This program aims to benefit both the postdoctoral fellow and his/her faculty mentor/advisor through the introduction of new technologies, expanding the research focus, and yielding publications and data for new innovative research proposals.

Eligibility:

  • Only postdoctoral fellows are eligible for this program.  Graduate students, research track faculty or research personnel are not eligible.
  • The research must be conducted at a CBC university core research facility (facilities).
  • The applicant must discuss the project with the Core Facility Director(s) that they will be using prior to submitting an application to justify the use of a particular core.
  • The application should describe how the proposed research will enable innovative discoveries and advance training of the applicant.
  • The postdoctoral applicant should prepare the research proposal with minimal editorial input from his/her faculty mentor/advisor.

Available Funding:

  • Grants will provide up to $15,000/year and the majority of the funding must be used for work in a core research facility (facilities) at CBC universities.
  • A funded grant is eligible for renewal for a second year of funding, based on a written renewal request and based on significant progress.
  • At least 50% of the CBC funds must be used to cover the costs associated with core facilities.  The remaining funds can be used to cover necessary supplies, reagents and animal use if applicable.  These funds cannot be used for any salary/stipend support.
  • The application must include a fully justified budget (see Proposal Application Process/Budget section below).

Key Dates for 2014:

The program will offer awards twice each year.  Proposal submission closes at 5PM on the day listed for each submission round.
